🤠 THE EXPERIENCE: Come and experience a week in the saddle with us, as we drove our cattle home from their mountainous pastures to be processed and then returned back to their paddocks on the return trip. Trip One will leave from the foothills of Mount Buffalo and proceed around to Rose River and then down through the King Valley to our home block at Oxley. Trip Two will consist of taking the cows back up through the King Valley to their paddocks at beneath Mount Buffalo. 

Here you will be accompanied by some of the most experienced and knowledgeable stockman. It is the perfect high country experience for you and your horse, and there is no better way to spend a week in the saddle than to be droving cattle through the mountains, valleys and bush country of North East Victoria.

Droving cattle was once the only method of moving stock from one place to another and the art has eventually been lost as society became more dependent on mechanical transport. The aim of the droving trip is not only to take the cattle back up to the hills, but to provide an insight into the mountain cattleman’s country life and the magnificent scenery that can be seen whilst on horseback.

⛰ THE VALLEY: The King Valley is rich in history and landmarks, with the story of Ned Kelly and Harry Power intertwined with popular places such as ‘Powers Lookout’ and ‘Paradise Falls’. Along our journey we will pass numerous vineyards, cellar doors, restaurants and café’s which produce some of Victoria’s finest wines, hospitality and produce.

🍽 REFRESHMENTS:  Throughout the trip you will be complimented with hearty bush cuisine cooked with fresh local produce by our cooking crew. You are guaranteed to never go hungry as you will indulge on some guest favourites like spit roasts, scotch fillet steaks, scones cooked on the road side and home cooked deserts every night. With mountainous countryside, tremendous food & a cattlemans experience, we want to share the beauty our region has on offer to all those who are willing to take the adventure of the 'Heritage Cattle Drive'.  We do not supply alcohol, however you are welcome to bring along your own.

🐴 HORSES: It is preferred that our guests bring their own horse and gear, but if you are unable to do so you have the option of hiring one of the Forge’s horses. Limited guest horses available for hiring. Get in fast to secure your horse now!

🏕🐴🐂 WHAT TO EXPECT: Each morning we will set out with a plan to travel approximately 12 km’s with the cattle. This is a full day in the saddle most days, but at a gentle pace. Toilet breaks? No stress, we have the luxury of a portable toilet that is towed along by our lead vehicle. We pull up and rest the cattle for morning smoko and lunch where we are met with tea and coffee and freshly baked treats. Each afternoon as we arrive into camp we have the comfort of a hot shower, a freshly prepared hearty bush meal and the company of our new mates as we sit around the campfire.
