Rides & Services
We are now offering numerous trail rides and cattle mustering experiences around the King Valley! Those who are wanting to experience the gorgeous scenery the area has to display, can now be mustering or checking cattle while soaking up the view.
We wanted to look outside the square and show people that there is more to horse riding than just the basic trail ride, so that's why we are now opening up the opportunities for others to join us on our day to day mustering, cattle work and droving trips.

MUSTERING
People now have the chance to come and join us on our mustering trips all over the King Valley & Rose River. Owning over 1000 head of cattle requires a lot of time spent mustering and yarding them to accomplish tasks such as sorting, tagging, drenching, marking and counting throughout the year. Most of our mustering trips are based around the sub alpine area of Rose River, but some rides will be in the lower country of the King Valley. The exact location of these rides will vary, depending on the time of year and the requested timeframe of the ride. What better way to spend time in the saddle!

TRAIL RIDES
For those who aren't wanting to do rides that involve cattle, we are also now offering trail rides around the King Valley area. With such amazing country and views throughout the Valley its the perfect opportunity for people to experience the scenery on horseback. We cover all areas from Oxley to Rose River, which has some of the highest altitude vineyards & expansive farm lands in the region whilst also following the beautiful King River along the way.
We are very flexible with these rides and can do them by request any time of the year.
CALVING TIME
Throughout the year we have nearly 600 expecting mothers that run in various areas
of the King Valley and Rose River in Victoria's North East. To ensure calving is running smoothly we have to regularly check the cows, making sure none of them are having trouble and that the newborns are healthy. Rides for this can vary from a couple of hours to 2 days but once again the requested timeframe will determine where the ride is being held.

WEANING TIME
With our cattle running over a 90km radius there are numerous times throughout the year where we will have to wean all the calves from their mothers. This process includes mustering the whole herd from the mountainous landscape and then sorting cows from calves once they are in the stockyards. The cows will then have to be taken back to their paddock after being sorted while the calves will be transported to another property.

CHECKING CATTLE
As a part of our every day life we constantly check our cattle on horseback, ensuring that they are fit and healthy. As well as watching their health we have to make sure that they are all still in correct paddocks and that boudary fences are in order. The country where we check our herds change as we make our way up the Valley, from lush river flats that follow the King River to the ungelating ranges of the Mountain Rose.
2 hour, 1/2 day, 1 & 2 day trips are all available.

DROVING
Our main droving trip is held annually in November where 200 head of cattle is driven over 7 days through the King Valley to the Forge's property in Oxley for a horse event. We have decided to offer trips for those who want to experience cattle droving, but they can now do it over shorter periods of time.
We constantly move our cattle from paddock to paddock, as pasture management is just one of many aspects of farming. Cattle are also driven back to our home property in Oxley for drenching, marking, tagging and sorting to be done. In summer, we drove cattle on the roads to clean up the dry fodder which reduces fire risk as well as feed the stock because of the lack of food in paddocks. Those who are interested are able to choose how long they would like to do these trips as this is an every day occurrence for us.
