Friday night gamesEvery Friday afternoon leading up to the Team Penning the 'Friday night games' are in full swing under the lights of the Forge's arenas. With a big BBQ to compliment the night, the games then commence with young and old competing against one another for a bit of fun rivalry between friends and family. The evening consists of novelty games such as barrel, bending and flag races as well as challenges and jumping to top it off. To finish the night a barrel race jackpot is held with a gold coin entry fee and the winner of this takes all. Its the perfect excuse to get out there on your horse and have a bit of fun!

Two-handed CuttingCutting is a horse sport where a horse and rider are judged on their ability to separate a single animal away from a herd of cattle and keep it away for a short period of time. In the event, the horse and rider select and separate a cow out of a small group. The cow then tries to return to its herd and the riders task is to keep the cow separated. A contestant has 2 ½ minutes to show the horse; typically three cows are cut during a run, although working only two cows is acceptable. A judge awards points to the cutter based on a scale that ranges from 60 to 80, with 70 being considered average. See videos below for examples of both team penning & two-handed cutting.

Team PenningTeam penning is a western horse sport that evolved from the common ranchwork of separating cattle into pens for branding, doctoring, or transport.Today it is a timed event that gives a team of three riders on horseback 90 seconds to separate three specifically identified cattle from a herd of 30, and put them into a pen at the opposite end of the arena. Teamwork is the key with all three riders working in harmony to cut out the correct cattle and drive them to the pen while keeping the rest of the herd back. The sport is one of the fairest of all horse competitions as it is based on time and the number of cattle that are penned. See videos below for examples of both team penning & two-handed cutting.
